Dr. Currie conducts neuropsychological and psychological (projective) assessments out of NESCA’s Londonderry office and sees individuals with a wide range of concerns. She enjoys working with stressed-out children, teens, and young adults, working to tease apart the various factors that may be lending to their stress, including assessment of possible underlying learning challenges (such as dyslexia or nonverbal learning disability), autism spectrum disorder, attentional deficit, or executive function weakness. She also often conducts evaluations with children confronting more primary emotional or psychiatric challenges, such as generalized anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or mood disorder. Dr. Currie has a particular interest in evaluating children with autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders, such as PANS and PANDAS. She also evaluates adults for concerns regarding ASD and ADHD.
Dr. Currie particularly enjoys working with the seemingly “unmotivated” child as well as children who have “flown under the radar” for years due to their desire to succeed. Additionally, Dr. Currie conducts evaluations with more emotionally and psychologically complex children and teens, particularly those that appear to be “stuck” in their therapeutic process and for whom adults are confused about how to reach them. She also often works with individuals who have experienced trauma and are working to understand how their experiences contribute to their current challenges.
Dr. Currie prides herself on helping clients and parents feel comfortable within the testing environment. Be it through taking a calm and gentle approach or integrating humor, she works to establish trust and comfort for each family. She aims to create long-term relationships with families and values the opportunity to help a client progress through various stages of development.
To her evaluations, Dr. Currie brings a wealth of experience in individual and group therapy, particularly for anxiety-based disorders. This experience allows her to write more detailed and individualized therapeutic recommendations that take both the learning and emotional profiles into consideration. She also has extensive experience in parent and school consultation and training and works to take a whole system into consideration when conceptualizing a child’s needs. She frequently observes children at school and participates at IEP meetings.
Dr. Currie received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Suffolk University, where her studies centered on children and families. She founded NESCA’s NH office, where she is currently the Director of NH Operations and often supervises neuropsychology trainees. During her free time, Dr. Currie enjoys spending time with her husband, two boys, and cockapoo. She also enjoys bicycling and dancing, and she serves on the board of trustees for the Alexander Eastman Foundation.
With her PsyPACT authorization, Dr. Angela Currie can conduct neuropsychological evaluations for children and students who are unable to easily come to our offices. This can be especially helpful when students are away from their parents and caregivers – even out of state – at a boarding school, college, therapeutic residential program, or just located too far away.
